The Michigan Laborers Union applauds today’s news of an agreement between the State of Michigan

and Enbridge to remove Line 5 from the Straits of Mackinac and place it in a new underground tunnel.

“The State of Michigan and Enbridge made the right decision today to remove Line 5 from the straits of

Mackinac and replace it in a newly constructed tunnel. As a lifelong Yooper, I know how important Line 5 is

to meeting the Upper Peninsula’s energy needs. I also know that the tunnel will be built to the highest of

standards with trained and skilled workers who will ensure that the pipeline may continue to operate

safely and responsibly.”

The Laborers International Union of North America was established in 1903 and represents over half a

million men and women who building America’s roads, bridges, buildings, and energy infrastructure.
